Call for Speakers

The Dare Conference is all about being brave—and speaking publicly is one of the bravest things you can do. We’re looking for breakout sessions (25 minutes long) that tackle difficult topics without pretending to have all the answers.

If you’re willing to be vulnerable, admit your failures, and share what you learned from them, we want to hear from you—even if you’ve never presented at a conference before.

Help us make the Dare Conference inclusive:

  • Share this call for speakers on Twitter and Facebook.
  • Email five people you know who should propose a talk.
  • Think of someone you know from a group that’s under-represented at conferences, and tell them why they should propose a talk.

Present at the Dare Conference and you’ll get:

  • A complimentary conference pass
  • £200 contribution to your travel and accommodation expenses
  • Discount on the Dare Workshop
  • Mentoring and feedback as you develop your talk (if you wish)

What to talk about

Your submission should cover one or more of these themes:

  • Vulnerability and courage. Techniques for making brave choices. How to face your fears. Engaging in difficult conversations. Dealing with failure. Overcoming perfectionism and shame.
  • Turning pro. Fighting the resistance (your lizard brain) and shipping your work. How to approach your work as an artist. The challenge of personal productivity. Building your personal platform through publishing, presenting, and community.
  • How to lead in a challenging and inclusive way. Organising an inclusive and diverse community. Finding your people. Feminism. Changing the culture of your organisation.
  • Techniques for change-makers. Building a learning organisation (lean). Cross-discipline approaches to cultural change. Making your customers awesome. Gamestorming and improvisation.
  • Case studies. How you screwed up and what you learned. How to break down organisational silos (and why it’s so hard.)

How to submit

  • Along with your session description, include a link to a video of you speaking. This can either be a past speaking gig, or a 3-5 minute video of you describing your talk. Recording quality isn’t important (webcam or iPhone video is fine), as long as we can hear the audio.
  • We can only accept solo proposals, and you can only submit one idea (choose your bravest.)
  • Propose your talk using this form by Monday 25 February, at midnight London time. Any questions, drop us an email.

We’ll let you know whether we’ve accepted your talk by 4 March. Thank you for being brave with us!

Terrifying = good

When you’re ready to submit, read your talk title out loud. Does the idea of presenting this to a hundred peers terrify you? Then you're on the right track—because when you dare to take risks, your audience will, too.

Who’s behind this?

At Together London we organise events to help you change your organisation. We’re here to make Dare Conference a safe space where everyone is treated with respect. Whatever your background, gender, ethnicity, age, or orientation, you’re welcome. Reach us at info@dareconf.com.
